In 1837, the Heath family bought a large piece of the area, and named their estate Deer Park. The property was subdivided in 1846 and was entirely sold off by 1874. The area began to grow so much that by the 1850’s there was a school, a race track, and a hotel right on the corner of Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue. The area quickly grew from the farmland to a residential community and by 1908 it was annexed by the City of Toronto. In the 1930s it became an upper-middle class residential area, which it remains today.
